CAIRO – 4 April 2019: On the sidelines of the Global Forum for Higher Education and Scientific Research held in the New Administrative Capital, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi chaired the Supreme Council of Universities on Thursday, presidential spokesperson Bassam Radi stated.

Minister of Higher Education Khaled Abdel Ghaffar updated President Sisi on the government’s plan to develop the academic education system through twinning the Egyptian universities with the foreign ones, the statement added.

“President Sisi highlighted the importance of upgrading the universities and scientific research's role in changing the culture of learning and knowledge to develop the Egyptians' abilities and to boost the comprehensive development march,” the statement read.

President Sisi also directed the government to support the outstanding young researchers and scholars to create a better future.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Education Tarek Shawqi and representatives of the Council of Researcher Centers and Institutions, the statement continued.

President Sisi inaugurated the Global Forum for Higher Education and Scientific Research in the presence of about 2,000 figures, including high-level officials and prominent persons.

Under the title "Between the Present and the Future," the forum takes place over three days, under the patronage of President Sisi and with the participation of a number of scientists, experts, and some of those concerned with university education, scientific research, and innovation, the presidential spokesman said.

Also, more than 300 foreign figures will attend including prominent scientists, heads of international universities, deputies of education ministers and education experts from 55 countries, as well as representatives of regional and international organizations concerned with higher education and scientific research, according to local media.
