ASWAN, Egypt – 16 March 2019: Moussa Faki Mahamat, chairperson of the AU Commission, praised Egypt's leading role in Africa and congratulated Sisi on assuming the AU chairmanship.

This came during AU official's address at the opening ceremony of the Arab-African Youth Forum (AAYF) in Aswan, attended by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

Expressing his pride in Egypt's glorious history and contribution to the human civilization, Faki applauded Egypt's prominent role in setting forth the founding principles of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU).

The 1st OAU summit was held in Cairo in 1969, the AU Commission's head said.

Mahamat reiterated that Egypt has made great progress in ending conflicts in Africa, urging youths to face the current challenges of terrorism and extremism in the continent.

Ahmad Ahmad, president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) stressed the importance of sports to have rapprochement among Arab and African countries, extending thanks to Egypt for hosting the forum.
