CAIRO - 10 January 2019: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi issued a decision to build The Canadian University in Egypt, the Egyptian branch of the Canadian University Prince Edward Island in the New Administrative Capital.

The new university will be under the supervision of the mother university in Canada. The university president is responsible for all decisions related to the university.

The university is set to contribute to boosting the educational process and scientific research in Egypt as well as strengthening ties between the educational organizations in Egypt and Canada. It also aims to offer educational opportunities without affecting the Egyptian students' identity.

The details of the agreement signed between the mother entity in Canada and its branch in Egypt state that the role of the university in Egypt is limited to providing administrative services and all the needed devices, assuring that the branch has no right to give any certificates or conduct scientific researches.

The mother organization in Canada determines all about the academic axes, especially the studying system, curricula, exams and granting degrees and certificated.

The educational organization works according to a separate budget where only its founders set the fields of expenditure. Its surplus value should be re-spent on its activities in a way to guarantee the continuity of its quality.

Furthermore, a Board of Trustees, including representatives of the Ministry of Higher Education, will be formed. The main role of the board is to formulate a policy for the organization.

The new branch of the Edward Prince Island university in Egypt will offer the following programs: Sustainable Design Engineering Program, Mathematics Program, and Entrepreneurship Program.

Outstanding students will not pay the university fees to encourage students to work hard and improve. Two percent of students’ fees will be gathered as taxes and will be paid in the same currency of the fees.

In a similar vein, President Sisi issued a decision to establish a private university in Sohag, entitled Merit.

The new private university will be located at the region of universities and institutions in Sohag.

The university includes a number of faculties, including Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Applied Medical Sciences, Faculty of Physical Therapy, Faculty of Economy and Management, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Tourism and Hotels and Faculty of Engineering.
