CAIRO, Dec 23 (MENA) - Minister of Health and Population Hala Zayed said Saturday that 7,872,224 citizens had been examined in the second phase of "100 Million Health" presidential campaign for detection of Hepatitis C and non-communicable diseases.

Total number of diagnosed citizens since the initiative kicked off in October has reached 20,576,418, the minister added in statements.

Ministry Spokesman Khaled Megahed ranked Cairo first with 2,909,000 citizens sought to be examined, .

In addition, 431,325 high school students have so far been diagnosed in the 1st phase governorates, Megahed said adding that the largest number of diagnosed students came from Alexandria followed by Beheira, Assiut and Qalubiya.

The campaign activities at schools kicked off on December 1 and will continue until the end of the third phase in April, Megahed noted.

Infected students are transferred to medication distribution units to receive their treatment free of charge, Megahed added.
