CAIRO – 30 May 2017: Egypt strongly condemned Baghdad terrorist attack, which killed 16 people and injured dozens on Monday, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The statement, released Tuesday, expressed Egypt's condolences for the Iraqi government and the victims' families, emphasizing its support for Iraq in countering terrorism.

The Islamic State (IS) terrorist group claimed two terrorist attacks that hit Iraq on Monday. The first was a car bomb detonated outside an ice cream shop in commercial Karrada district, killing at least 16 and injuring 27 others. Another car exploded, hours later, near Iraq's Public Pension Office in Shawaka district, killing 12 and wounding 23, media outlets reported.

The foreign minister's statement further confirmed Egypt's stance regarding collaborative international efforts to combat terrorism, and stressed the necessity for a comprehensive vision to stop the spread of terrorism and hinder its capacity to attract new elements.
