CAIRO, Nov 28 (MENA) - Egyptian Ambassador to Canada Ahmed Abu Zeid had a meeting with the chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development at the House of Commons of Canada, Michael Levitt.

In a press release on Wednesday, the Foreign Ministry said the meeting fell within the framework of the Egyptian embassy's contacts with the circles of influence in the political, economic and cultural fields in Canada.

Following the meeting, the Egyptian diplomat said that Levitt expressed his keenness on opening channels of communication with the Egyptian House of Representatives to shore up the Egyptian-Canadian ties in various domains.

Abu Zeid said that Levitt also proposed to set up an Egyptian-Canadian parliamentary friendship group to help promote ties between Cairo and Ottawa.

The two sides reviewed a flurry of regional and international issues of mutual interest, as well as Egypt's vision on these issues, topped by the conditions in the Middle East, efforts to fight terrorism and means to promote peace and stability at the international level.

At the end of their meeting, Abu Zeid invited Levitt to visit Egypt.
