CAIRO - 7 November 2018: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi welcomed Egypt's hosting of the COP 14 - Fourteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm El Sheikh on Tuesday.

In a greeting address posted on the convention's website Wednesday, the Egyptian president voiced happiness for holding these important meetings in Sharm El Sheikh, the City of Peace, with its rich maritime life and diverse wildlife in a way that makes it a lively city at its best and a symbol of vital interaction between Man and nature.

Man has realized from the dawn of history the importance of vital resources in his surrounding and their role in reaching the aspired prosperity. The great Egyptian civilization is a great example in this respect, the president said.

This great civilization was established and flourished over thousands of years depending on natural resources. The ancient Egyptians were fully aware and so appreciative of the rich eco-systems surrounding them, he added.

After thousands of years, the Egyptians are still proud of their heritage and committed at the same time to protecting such natural wealth for the current and future generations, he said.

The president welcomed the official delegations participating in the conference and all the representative partners of a number of parties concerned and the civil society.
