CAIRO - 20 September 2018: The cabinet's media center on Thursday denied media reports about the closure of Al Hussien mosque on the occasion of the Ashura anniversary.

In a fact-finding report, the center said that it contacted the Awqaf Ministry, which described these reports as baseless.

The ministry asserted that the mosque doors are open to worshipers, the report said.

The ministry warned against breaching the sanctity of mosques in this occasion, saying it will take necessary legal measures against violators, the report added.

It appealed to all media outlet to seek accuracy before spreading such false news to avoid agitating public opinion.

Ashura is the tenth day of Muharram in the Islamic calendar and it commemorates the death of Hussien bin Ali, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad.
