CAIRO – 10 September 2018: The United States and Egyptian government signed a $13.8 million on Monday to help improve the Holding Company for Water and Wastewater and its subsidiary companies, the U.S. embassy in Cairo said in a statement.

The signed agreement came as part of Egypt’s 2030 Sustainable Development plan, the statement added.

“In support of the Government of Egypt’s strategic vision to reform water and wastewater utilities, USAID will provide technical assistance with a focus on operational efficiency and quality service,” The USAID Mission Director to Egypt Sherry F. Carlin said in a statement.

“This will help HCWW and its subsidiaries reach self-sufficiency and ensure the continuation of services vital for the health and well-being of Egyptian families,” he added.

According to the statement, more than 25 million Egyptians, out of 90 million, have access to clean water and sanitation under the USAID programs in Egypt. The USAID program in Egypt has been estimated at $30 billion since 1978.
