CAIRO – 23 May 2017: Al-Azhar, Egypt's largest Sunni Muslim beacon, on Tuesday, strongly condemned Monday’s frightful terrorist attack targeting the crowd gathering for the Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England.

Al-Azhar described the attack in a press statement as a “malicious” act that is utterly rejected by all religions, values and human norms.

The statement further stressed that terrorizing innocent people and bloodshed are inhumane.

The Islamic State (IS) group has claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing that killed 22 people and injured at least 59.

Al-Azhar also stoutly called for setting an international strategy to combat terrorism and to unreservedly eliminate its roots, especially after becoming a danger that threatens the whole world.

Through the statement, Al-Azhar offered its deepest condolences to the British government, people and families of the victims, hoping the injured recover soon.
