CAIRO – 20 August 2018: An 11-year-old child hanged himself in Sharqia governorate, Egypt, after his uncle's death, leaving a message stating that he went to his uncle who loved him so much.

“I went to the other world to meet my uncle,” the message read. Investigations revealed that the child hanged himself with trousers in his room; his family said that the child was in a very bad psychological condition after his uncle's death.

Investigations also revealed that his uncle drowned in the waters of the Suez Canal.

In 2015, the Egyptian Foundation for Advancement of the Childhood Condition’s report revealed that 14 children ended their lives due to family issues and financial reasons.

One of the main reasons for suicide is the failure of school exams or the fear of exams, one aspect of life that has the greatest impact on Egyptian children and played a key role in the suicide of a 14-year-old boy who hanged himself in his room after failing a subject.
