CAIRO - 6 August 2018: Pope Tawadros II, the Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark received Sunday Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Enzo Moavero Milanesi at St. Mark Cathedral in Abbassia.

Milanesi confirmed his country’s support to Egypt and his honor to meet with the pope for the second time. Pope Tawadros II and Milanesi met previously in Italy during the former’s visit past July.

CAIRO - 8 July 2018: Pope Tawadros II, the Pope of Alexandria and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark led on Sunday a Holy Mass at the church of Saint Paul Apostle in Rome, the second largest church in Rome, according to a press statement released by Bishop Theophilus, the Bishop of Turenyo.




During his visit to Cairo, Milanesi met with President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi and his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry, where both ministers discussed issues like illegal immigration, the Palestinian issue, terrorism and the relationship between Italy and Egypt.

CAIRO - 5 August 2018: A variety of topics dealing with illegal immigration, the Palestinian issue, terrorism and the relationship between Italy and Egypt was discussed by Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and Italian Foreign Minister Enzo Milanesi in a press conference at the Tahrir Palace.




Sisi stressed the importance of developing the partnership on the economic, trade, and investments scales between Egypt and Italy, capitalizing on the success of cooperation in the oil and gas field as Egypt looks forward to becoming the regional center for gas and energy trade and exchange.

On his part, the Italian minister praised the transparency of investigations on the death of Italian student, Giulio Regeni, asserting his confidence that the truth will be uncovered.

In a joint press conference with Shoukry on Sunday, Milanesi expressed confidence in the ongoing investigation.

“We appreciate the excellent cooperation that we have seen between the judiciaries of both countries and we are confident that justice will come to light on this painful issue,” Moavero Milanesi said in comments broadcast on state television.

“I was pleased to hear from the Egyptian minister of the strong will on the part of the Egyptian government to achieve concrete results from the judicial investigations,” he said.

CAIRO - 5 August 2018: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi met with Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs Enzo Moavero Milanesi on Sunday and expressed appreciation of bilateral relations and aspiration for further cooperation. The meeting was attended by Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry, director of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service (GIS) Abbas Kamel, and Italian Ambassador to Egypt Giampaolo Cantini.
