CAIRO – 17 May 2017: An Egyptian parliamentary delegation arrived in Tokyo Wednesday in a 6 day visit upon an invitation from the Japanese counterpart, which is considered the first in 23 years.

The Japan-Egypt Parliamentary Friendship Association reactivated its work last February, and President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi’s 2016 visit and speech before the Japanese Parliament marked a new beginning in the bilateral relations, said Egyptian Ambassador to Tokyo Ismail Khairat.

Egyptian Parliament Speaker Ali Abdel-Aal and his delegation will meet with Japan’s prime minister and the heads of the two chambers of the National Diet of Japan (parliament), as well as attend a general meeting of the Parliament.

The delegation will also meet with the governor of Tokyo, the head of the Japan International Cooperation Agency, and the members of the Egyptian-Japanese Business Council.

Egypt and Japan have collaborated in various projects, including Assalam Bridge (Mubarak Peace Bridge) over the Suez Canal, and the Grand Egyptian Museum, which is still being established.
