CAIRO – 3 April 2018: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi received on Tuesday Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, Salim al-Jabouri, in Cairo upon the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union’s request.

Jabouri congratulated Sisi on his re-election, as election results have reflected people’s trust in President Sisi’s leadership in such a critical stage of Egypt’s history, Ambassador Bassam Radi, the presidential spokesman said. Jabouri also praised Sisi’s achievements in terms of fighting terrorism and overcoming it.

Jabouri expressed his people’s thanks and appreciation to the Egyptian state and people for supporting Iraq, affirming Iraq’s keenness to strengthen relations with Egypt in various realms, Radi added.

Radi revealed that President Sisi welcomed the Iraqi parliamentary delegate headed by Jabouri, and praised the strong Egyptian-Iraqi ties that have seen much progress recently.

Sisi expressed Egypt’s dedication to Iraq’s unity, and its support to efforts aiming to re-stabilize the nation and unify Iraqis, Radi stated. Radi went on to add that Sisi affirmed Egypt’s openness to cooperate with Iraq in various bilateral fields.

Jabouri had called for Egypt to take part in the reconstruction of liberated areas in Iraq, according to a statement issued by the press office of the Iraqi speaker in November, 2017.

In an interview with Egypt Today in February, Jabouri expressed gratitude for Egypt’s constant interaction and prompt reactions to Iraqi issues, and praised Egypt for its profound regional and Arab roles despite the challenges it has been facing.
