CAIRO - 15 January 2018: Arab Parliament chief Meshaal bin Fahm al Salmi will participate in an international conference on supporting Al Quds (Jerusalem) that will be held by Al Azhar this week upon an invitation from Grand Sheikh of Al Azhar Ahmed el Tayyeb, the head of the Council of Senior Scholars of Al Azhar.

Salmi said in a press statement released Monday that he will address on Wednesday the opening session of the two-day conference on the importance of increasing inter-Arab cooperation, upholding Islamic solidarity and closing up Arab and Islamic ranks in support of Al Quds.

He will also call on Arab and Islamic countries to use their relations with other countries and the international organizations to serve efforts aimed at reaching a just, comprehensive and enduring solution for the Palestinian problem, support international recognition of the "independent State of Palestine with Al Quds as its capital" and back the struggle of the Palestinians to realize their legitimate rights.

He asserted that the Arab Parliament's participation in this important conference reflects its keenness on facing up to the US administration's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and comes in pursuance of efforts aiming at standing against Israeli schemes to obliterate the Arab and Islamic identity of the occupied holy city.
