CAIRO – 8 January 2018: The BBC's China editor Carrie Gracie made her resignation public via a letter, posted on her blog, on Sunday in protest of unequal remuneration, according to BBC news.

The past few days saw the BBC facing criticism over the pay discrimination between male and female employees. In response, the BBC pledged to reduce the gender wage gap by 2020, stating that there is “no systemic discrimination against women.”

Gracie, who has been at the BBC for more than 30 years, says that the BBC is facing a crisis of trust and that they are in “[violation of] the law of equality.”

She added that the BBC has two male Editors-in-chief who get paid at least 50 percent more than the two women who hold the same position.

“BBC should recognize the problem and offer apologizes, then put a fair and transparent wage structure,” Gracie said.

She also added that she resigned from her post in Beijing last week to return to her position in the newsroom on BBC television.
