CAIRO – 24 December 2017: President of the Arab Lawyers Union Attorney Sameh Ashour condemned Israeli occupation authorities for arresting a 17-year-old Palestinian girl named Ahed Tamimi after a video showing her slapping Israeli soldiers went viral on social media.

Ashour declared that he commissioned the president of the Palestinian Bar Association and the members of Palestinian Syndicate Council to form a defense committee for Tamimi.

He added that the case will be referred to the international courts.

Ashour stressed that Arab lawyers in the union will not head to the occupied territories, and will not take a visa entry from Israel because they do not recognize their unfair laws.

The armed soldiers arrested her on Tuesday after a video went viral on social media on Friday, showing her and another Palestinian teen girl shoving, kicking and slapping Israeli soldiers. The armed forces did not respond to them before moving away.

The incident occurred during a clash in the Palestinian village of Nabi Saleh in the West Bank, after U.S. President Donald Trump decided to recognize Jerusalem as the Israeli capital and to move the US Embassy to it.

Tamimi’s mother was also arrested and detained without explanation. Israeli forces confirm that the pair would be in prison until Thursday.
