CAIRO – 21 December 2017: “The Arabs do not maintain the defensive position all the way,” Moustafa al-Fekki, former diplomat and current director of Bibliotheca Alexandrina, said on Wednesday in a comment about the U.N. Security Council’s consensus on the Egyptian-drafted resolution rejecting Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

During an interview with Sherif Amer, anchor of the “Yahdos Fi Masr” (Happening in Egypt) program broadcasted on the MBC Masr satellite channel, on Wednesday, Fekki further stated that the UNSC session ended with a huge gain, showing the international consensus against the unilateral U.S. decision and bringing the two-state solution back into discussion.

U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley tweeted, "On Thursday, there will be a vote criticizing our choice. The U.S. will be taking names," referring to the 193-nation assembly. That reaction may be an indication that the U.S. administration is anticipating the majority vote in favor of the resolution.

On December 6, U.S. President Donald Trump announced moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem and thereby recognizing the city as the Israeli capital.
