CAIRO – 2 April 2017: A police officer was killed and twelve were injured Saturday in an explosion that targeted a training center for security forces in Tanta, north of Cairo,

BBC reported

.

Three civilians who were present at the scene were also injured, according to the Ministry of Interior’s

Facebook page

.

“The inspection revealed the explosion device was planted in a motorcycle,” the ministry stated.
“A security cordon was imposed and the area was swept to secure it and take legal action.”

Islamic group Lewaa El Thawra, “Revolution Brigade,” claimed responsibility for the explosion. According to their twitter account, they targeted the “police traitors,” leaving behind “twenty wounded and killed,” and came out safely.

The explosion is retaliation for the death of four of the group’s members who were targeted by police last month the group stated, adding that they will be publishing a video of the explosion “at the appropriate time.”

Lewaa El Thawra

claimed responsibility

for the assassination of a high-ranking army officer in October, Major Adel Ragaai. The Egyptian Ministry of Interior announced in December the assassins had been identified and gunned down.
