CAIRO - 28 November 2017: The sixth meeting of permanent representatives to the Arab League (AL) and members of the Political and Security Committee of the Council of the European Union kicked off in Brussels Tuesday.

A joint press statement, a copy of which MENA received, said the meeting tackled the current regional challenges, which the Arab and European worlds face, including combating terrorism and illegal immigration.

The meeting also focused on the Middle East peace process and the situation in Syria, Libya, Yemen and Iraq, the statement said.

Both sides agreed on the need to work together to face joint political, economic, social and security challenges, it added.

They also reiterated commitment to a declaration issued by an EU-AL ministerial meeting, which was held in Cairo in 2016, regarding the organization of a Euro-Arab summit, according to the statement.

Great progress has been achieved in developing Arab-European practical cooperation since the launch of strategic dialogue between the AL and EU, particularly where crisis management, humanitarian aid, combating terrorism and organized crime and the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction are concerned, the statement said
