Cairo – 1 March 2017: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi awarded French Minister of Defense Jean-Yves Le Drian the Order of the Republic, First Class, on Tuesday for his efforts in progressing military cooperation between the two countries.

According to a presidential statement, Sisi “commended the positions of the French Defense Minister and his commitment to promoting frameworks of cooperation between Egypt and France,” emphasizing the need for further coordination between the two countries against common challenges, such as terrorism.

Le Drian said “France will continue to support Egypt's pivotal role in the Middle East as a cornerstone for security and stability, as well as its endeavors to reach political solutions to ongoing crises in the region.” He reiterated France's commitment to advance bilateral relations with Egypt in the military and security areas.

Sisi and Le Drian discussed military and security relations between the two countries, the regional situation and international counterterrorism.
