CAIRO – 24 November 2017: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi held an urgent meeting Friday night with Minister of Defense Sedki Sobhi, Minister of Interior Magdy Abdel Ghaffar, and the head of the General Intelligence Khaled Fawzy to discuss the developments of the Arish attack that left 235 dead and 109 injured.

Sisi urged all concerned agencies to accelerate probes in order to arrest the perpetrators of the attack, stressing that security forces should be at their utmost readiness to confront any future dangers or terrorist operations, stated Ambassador Bassam Rady, spokesperson for the Presidency.

The president was briefed on the developments of the attack and the security forces’ efforts to arrest the involved terrorist elements.

Rady added that the president affirmed his confidence in Egypt’s ability to win the war against terrorism and eradicate it completely, citing the steadfastness and sacrifices of Egyptian people.

Acting Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly was also following up on the attack. Madbouly was named acting prime minister on Thursday since Prime Minister Sherif Ismail is in Germany for a surgery.

The attack took place during the Friday prayers held at the Al-Rawdah Mosque located in west Arish; the mosque was damaged as a result of the bomb.

Eyewitnesses said that the terrorists set fire in cars that belonged to residents and blocked a road in Al-Rawdah Village.

A total of 50 ambulance, security and bomb squad vehicles were deployed to the attacked village in Arish following the attack.
