CAIRO – 16 November 2017: Members of Egypt’s House of Representatives received a delegation from the German Bundestag on Thursday, the second meeting of the Egyptian-German Parliamentary Friendship Association, to discuss bilateral cooperation between the Egyptian and German parliaments.

The German delegation is composed of German-Egyptian Parliamentary Friendship Association member Peter French, head of the delegation Christian Haase and Under Secretary of Bundestag Orlich Schüttler.

The Egyptian MP and former Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohamed El-Orabi, head of Egyptian-German Parliamentary Friendship Association, and MPs at the Association including Jihan Amer, Suzie Rafla and Silvia Nabil met with the delegation.

The meeting focused on Germany’s vision for Egypt’s efforts to combat terrorism and establish medium and small projects within the country.

During the visit, the German delegation will meet with the Egyptian youth chosen for internships in the German parliament, an initiative organized by the German Bundestag for Asian and African youth.

The German Ambassador to Egypt, Julius Georg Luy, praised Egypt’s efforts in supporting youth by integrating them in the decision-making process, referring to Egypt’s endeavors to open dialogue with the country’s youth.

In light of the meeting, MP Jihan Amer stressed Egyptian political leadership keenness to open dialogue with the world’s youth over the coming year by convening youth conferences, such as the recent World Youth Forum.

A 12-member Egyptian-German Parliamentary Friendship Association was officially formed in Cairo in May 2017 with the aim of reinforcing relations between Egypt's parliament and Germany's Bundestag in combating terrorism, fighting illegal migration and promoting tourism, according to Ahram Online.
