CAIRO - 1 November 2017: Egypt signed in Brussels the international agreement for its participation in the Mediterranean Partnership for Research and Innovation (PRIMA).

In a press release on Wednesday, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said that the agreement was inked by Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Mohamed Shinawi on the Egyptian side, Deputy Permanent Representative of Estonia to the European Union (EU) Clyde Kull and Director of International Cooperation in the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission Maria Cristina Russo on the EU side.

The inking of the agreement comes as a result of negotiations held between the two sides over five years to make sure that Egypt benefits from cooperation with EU in the field of research and innovation putting into consideration the great attention paid by Egypt to upgrading scientific research in cooperation with key actors in the international arena.

The initiative focuses on enhancing research and innovation in the domains of water management and food security which top Egypt's priorities during the coming phase.
