CAIRO – 30 October 2017: Eight private school bus drivers were charged on Monday morning to one year in jail for accusations of being under the influence of drugs during their shift. The Traffic Misdemeanor Court issued the verdict after receiving medical laboratory reports which affirmed that the accusation was true.

Those drives came as part of a campaign sponsored by the Ministry of Social Solidarity Fund for Drug Control and Treatment of Addiction (FDCTA) since 2014.

Several drivers were arrested in the incident, according to Minister of Social Solidarity Ghada Wali, who affirmed that another 123 drivers were jailed during the academic year of 2016/2017 in the governorates of Cairo, Giza, Qalyubia, Alexandria, Sharqia, Red Sea, Gharbia, Port Said, Beheira, Dakahlia and Aswan.

The campaign is expected to remain ongoing during the upcoming academic year, according to Wali.
