CAIRO, Oct 24 (MENA) - Grand Imam of Al Azhar Ahmed Tayyeb said Tuesday that Saudi Arabia, under the leadership of Saudi King Salman Abdulaziz, has a great role in defending the interests of the Arab and Islamic nations.

These remarks came during Tayyeb's meeting with Saudi Ambassador in Cairo Ahmed Qattan, as he lauded the unique efforts of Qattan in strengthening the relations between Egypt and Saudi Arabia, particularly the cooperation between Al Azhar and the Saudi religious institutions.

Meanwhile, Qattan said that Al Azhar has a great place in the hearts of the Muslims for its significant role in spreading moderate Islam, confronting the extremist thought and eradicating the rhetoric of violence and intolerance.

He expressed his full appreciation towards Tayyeb's efforts in working on spreading coexistence and tolerance among different countries and peoples of the world.
