CAIRO – 15 October 2017: Al-Azhar has strongly condemned a terrorist attack that targeted al Qawadis area in North Sinai, killing six members of the Armed Forces, while armed forces killed 24 terrorists.

In a statement on Sunday, Al Azhar stressed that the Egyptian people stand by the Armed Forces and police in their fight against terrorist groups in Sinai, praising the leading a prolonged fight against extremists in North Sinai.

Al-Azhar added that these terrorist groups seek to corrupt the Egyptian people on the anniversary of the October 6 victory by these vicious attacks, but the army was able thwart the attempts.

The top Sunni Islam authority called on the international community to cooperate and coordinate in efforts to combat terrorism, which has spread to all corners of the world.
The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Ahmed al-Tayyeb, expressed his sincere condolences to the families of the martyrs, praying that God have mercy on their souls.
