CAIRO, 2 October 2017 - Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Abul Gheit met on Monday with UN deputy envoy to Syria Ramzy Ezzeldin Ramzy for talks on the latest developments of the Syrian crisis.

Ramzy briefed Abul Gheit on efforts exerted by the United Nations to resume Geneva talks as soon as possible, said AL chief's spokesman Mahmoud Afifi.

The two sides agreed that de-escalation zones, recently created in Syria, cannot be considered as an alternative to the political track, the spokesman said.

They underlined the importance of unifying the Syrian opposition and preserving Syria unity.
