CAIRO – 30 September 2017: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi issued a decree to call on the House of Representatives to convene on Monday, October 2 for the Parliament’s third consecutive round as part of its first legislative session.

Here are the notable legislations and topics expected to be discussed:

Placed on the third round’s priorities list and expected to receive the nod of lawmakers is the application of the local administration law, which regulates the operation of municipalities and also involves changes to the Code of Criminal Procedure and the Penal Code.

Falling under the local administration law are the National Council for Women Act, which sets out its respective prerogative, and another law pertaining to regulating fatwa issuances.

Instantaneous divorce, pre-UNI education development are among the legislative agenda

The controversial practice of verbal divorce, or “Triple Talaq”, is one of the topics that have come under heated discussions the past few years over its legitimacy, which will soon be settled by the parliamentarians during the upcoming round, along with the draft law that comes up with a blueprint for the development of pre-university education.

A draft law regulating the use of social media and internet use is also a topic of priority for the lawmakers this round, besides a law that manages the assets confiscated from terrorists and terrorist organizations.
