CAIRO – 27 September 2017: The legal committee of the Iraqi parliament confirmed on Wednesday that the parliament reached consensus on their refusal to negotiate with Erbil, in the Kurdistan Region, over the unity of the country.

The parliamentary legal committee member Salim Shawqi stated that they would vote to delegate Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi to carry out all authorities stipulated in the constitution.

"The state of emergency can be imposed in the disputed areas," Shawqi added.

The parliament hosts Abadi to discuss the crisis of the independence referendum organized by the Kurdistan Regional Government.

A referendum for Kurdish independence was held in the Kurdish areas on September 25. Iraq, the U.S., Iran, Turkey and Saudi Arabia have previously warned against holding the referendum.
