CAIRO – 1 September 2017: Egyptians love life. They seize every occasion to spread joy, and they know how to enjoy every moment. A popular Egyptian song says, “be happy and free from sadness ... take a visa to joy ... nothing is more important in your life than being happy.”
Living in Egypt for over a year now, I can relate and understand that any feast or occasion has a different taste in Egypt. The underlying reason is that Egyptians know how to enjoy life.
In the morning, girls, boys, women and men of all ages woke up early and started the festive traditions of Eid al-Adha. They started with the feast’s prayer followed by the animal sacrifices and the scene of joy and happiness witnessed on needy people’ faces when receiving their share of the meat to celebrate this day. Add to that the colorful clothes worn by children as they visit their friends and family: a successful recipe to create a day to remember.
The below photos capture the joy and festive activities in the Egyptian streets.
Thousands prayed the feast prayer in mosques, public spaces and squares in all governorates. The preachers at the mosques urged people to love each other and to work on spreading peace and rejecting hatred.
A landmark in every Eid ... the zoo
Balloons, toys and new clothes for children
