CAIRO – 1 September 2017: Minister of Transport Hisham Arafat unexpectedly visited Giza Railway Station on Thursday to verify train movement regularity before Eid al-Adha.

Arafat checked the flow of the Upper Egypt trains and the ticket windows. He also listened to the passengers’ complaints.

Testing train quality, Arafat took one of the trains on the platform. He also checked a sleeper train. Talking to train drivers, Arafat urged them to stick to the operation rules.

Minister of interior Magdy Abdel Ghaffar called on security forces to deal immediately with any problems occurring on the railways due to the high crowd density during Eid.

On August 11 two trains crashed in Alexandria, leaving an estimated 42 people dead and 179 injured, according to the minister of health and population.
