MOSCOW - 29 Aug 2017: Russia wants North Korea to show restraint and avoid provocative actions and for the United States and its allies to eschew military escalation, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said on Tuesday, the Interfax news agency reported.

Ryabkov made the statement after North Korea fired a ballistic missile over Japan's northern Hokkaido island into the sea early on Tuesday.

The test, one of the most provocative ever from the reclusive state, came as U.S. and South Korean forces conduct annual military exercises on the peninsula, angering North Korea which sees them as a preparation for invasion.
