CAIRO – 16 August 2017: United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Director-General nominee Moushira Khattab and the African Union ambassador who is accredited by UNESCO will start an intensive promotional campaign at the beginning of September, said head of Khattab's electioneering Mohamed Oraby on Wednesday.

Khattab met with African Union ambassador and the Permanent Representative of Egypt to the UN, Amr Ramadan in Geneva on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Khattab discussed the outcomes of her late meetings with a number of African diplomatic corps deans, the heads of the African groups and the ambassadors of the African Union, the meetings which came in response to African Summit late call to take collective action in order to attract a large number of votes, said Oraby.

Earlier, on Tuesday, Khattab met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Guinea Makalé Camara who has stressed her full support of Egypt and Khattab in the election of the post of Director-General of UNESCO, while visiting Khan el-Khalili on Monday.

Camara was accompanied by Orabi, Khattab and Assistant Foreign Minister for African Affairs Mohamed Idris.

Guinea has played an important role in the resolution of 29th African Union Summit held from June 27 to July 4, 2017 in Addis Ababa to support Khattab in the election.
Orabi extended his thanks to the Saudi, Bahraini, and Emirati officials for their support in the UNESCO Director-General post elections, pointing out that Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain have strong and solid relations with many member states of the UNESCO Executive Council.
