CAIRO – 23 July 2017: The Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson, Ahmed Abu Zeid said on Saturday that Egypt’s condemnation statements to Israeli practices is a political pressure on Tel Aviv to ease its feast on Palestinians, during a phone interview with CBC TV channel.

“All countries in the region should condemn the Israeli practices in statements, in order to push it to review its situation,” Abu Zeid told Hona al-Assema TV show on Saturday, stressing that Egypt requested the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to hold an urgent session to discuss the incidents which took place recently in Jerusalem.

Egypt, France and Sweden on Saturday called for holding an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss the ongoing violence in Al-Quds.

The meeting, for which a date has not yet been set, will tackle means to support calls for de-escalation as clashes between Israeli police and Palestinians continue in East Jerusalem.

Tensions have soared since two Israeli policemen were killed a week ago by three Israeli Arab gunmen who were also shot dead by Israeli troops.

On Friday, a Palestinian young man stabbed three Israelis to death in Halamish settlement after he infiltrated their home. He was shot and caught.
