CAIRO – 4 May 2024: The Hamas delegation tasked with negotiating a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip arrived in Egypt and made significant progress in negotiations, a high-level source told Al Qahera News.

The source added that the Egyptian security delegation reached a consensus formula on many points of disagreement.

On May 2, Chief of the General Intelligence Directorate Abbas Kamel made a phone call with the Head of the Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh.
Egypt is hosting a new round of indirect talks between Hamas movement and Israel regarding reaching a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and increasing the humanitarian aid that should enter the besieged enclave.

According to Al Qahera News, the Egyptian proposal entails the release of 20-40 captives currently held by Hamas in Gaza, in exchange for Palestinian security prisoners serving lengthy sentences or who are elderly.

Israel has killed 34,622 Palestinians, the majority of them women and children, since the 7th of October 2023. It also has injured 77,867 others.

Meanwhile, Egypt and the UAE jointly continued airdropping humanitarian aid into the besieged Gaza Strip, announced the Egyptian Ministry of Defense in a statement on Saturday.

Aid airdropping comes in light of intensified Egyptian efforts to reach a humanitarian ceasefire inside the Gaza Strip and to ensure the continued flow of humanitarian aid for the besieged Palestinians and meet their basic demands amid a worsening humanitarian crisis inside the Strip, the statement continued.

It also comes as in the implementation of the directives of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.

This coincides with the implementation of daily sorties and sustains the airdrop of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. Egypt also carried out other aid airdrops in collaboration with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and several friendly nations.

Simultaneously, aid distribution persists through the Rafah crossing to alleviate the plight of the Palestinian people.
