Speaking at a press conference held by the WHO's regional bureau on Monday on the occasion marking World Immunization Week, Hajjeh added that Egypt has become the first country globally to receive a certificate from the WHO in recognition of its success in eliminating Hepatitis C.

Egypt has also introduced a countrywide campaign to eliminate Hepatitis C, she further said, adding that Hepatitis B has also been eliminated through vaccinating the newborns as part of the pentavalent vaccine.

She, meanwhile, extended thanks to Egypt over the remarkable achievements made in the vaccination sphere, noting that Egypt has been polio-free since 2000.
