Egypt’s Sisi, Serbian president discuss Middle East, Ukraine crises

CAIRO - 17 April 2024: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from his Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vučić where they discussed the crisis in the Middle East and Ukraine.

According to a Wednesday statement by presidential spokesperson Ahmed Fahmy, the call touched on a number of regional and international developments.

Sisi highlighted importance of uniting international efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, secure relief aid to all areas of the strip, and protect its residents from famine. He also warned of the danger of military escalation and its expansion, which threatens the security and safety of the entire region.

The two presidents also discussed developments in the Russian-Ukrainian crisis and its global repercussions, and agreed to continue joint consultation and coordination. 

They praised the progress achieved in relations between the two countries following the Sisi’s visit to Serbia in July 2022. In the visit, they  vowed to strengthen bilateral cooperation mechanisms in all fields and the existing cooperation between the two sides in international forums and organizations. 

Finally, Sisi and Vučić discussed ways to continue coordination and consultation on issues of common interest.
