Egyptian president, Ursula von der Leyen discuss bilateral deal, Gaza War

CAIRO – 17 March 2024: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi discussed Sunday with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen bilateral cooperation as well as Gaza War.

The European Commission president is holding a visit to Cairo – accompanied by a number of European heads of state – to attend the EU-Egypt Summit where a joint political declaration on upgrading relations to the "strategic and comprehensive level" will be signed.  

The meeting also tackled regional affairs as President Sisi stressed the importance of a ceasefire in Gaza Strip, and underscored Egypt's rejection to the attempted forced displacement of Palestinians to its territories pointing out that the country would not allow it.
