CAIRO – 21 February 2024: Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry praised on Wednesday distinguished cooperation and coordination between Egypt and Russia at various international forums, and the mutual support of the two countries' international nominations for international positions.

Shoukry made the remarks during his meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov on the sidelines of their participation in the activities of the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Rio de Janeiro.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said Shoukry tackled existing aspects of cooperation between the two countries in various fields, citing cooperation in the Dabaa nuclear power plant project.

The spokesman said Shoukry talked about Egypt's hope of reaching a political settlement to the Ukrainian crisis, underlining the importance of rallying international efforts to resolve this crisis, especially in light of its continued negative humanitarian, political and economic repercussions at the regional and international levels and on the Egyptian economy in particular.

The spokesman said the meeting touched on the latest developments of many issues and files at the regional and international levels, where the two ministers exchanged their views on the Palestinian issue in connection with the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza, as well as the developments in Yemen and the negative impact on the security and safety of maritime navigation.

Talks also tackled developments in Sudan as well as ways to resolve the Libyan and Syrian issues.

Lavrov underlined the great importance of the deeply-rooted partnership and cooperation between Cairo and Moscow, calling for continuing high-level consultation between the two sides in a way that achieves the mutual interest of the peoples of the two friendly countries and ensures continued work to support regional stability.
