CAIRO – 13 February 2024: Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry met Tuesday in Cairo with French President's Special Envoy to Lebanon Jean-Yves Le Drian to exchange views on resolving the crises the fellow Arab state is enduring.

Earlier in February, Egypt participated in the meeting of the Quintet Committee on Lebanon, whose membership includes Egypt, France, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United States of America, and Qatar, with the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri, according to a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.

The committee aims to solve the issue of the Lebanese presidential election. The Egyptian delegation in the meeting was headed by Ambassador Alaa Moussa, Egypt’s ambassador to Lebanon.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said in the statement that the committee members were keen to provide all possible assistance to bring the positions of the Lebanese political parties closer together, without interference or infringement of the right and responsibility of the Lebanese Parliament.

Abu Zeid voiced Egypt's firm support to Lebanon and its keenness to complete the presidential election as soon as possible.

For his part, Mr. Nabih Berri welcomed the unified position of the five countries towards supporting Lebanon, reiterating his commitment to working with the various Lebanese political forces and the international community to quickly complete the presidential election.
