CAIRO – 24 January 2024: Egyptian Ambassador to Czech Republic Mahmoud Afifi met this week with the country's Special Envoy for Energy Security Vaclav Bartuska to discuss cooperation in new and renewable energy projects, including those in the green hydrogen sector.

In that context, the ambassador gave an overview of the energy infrastructure introduced in Egypt over the past few years. He underlined that Egypt aimed for attracting foreign investments in the green hydrogen sector at the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCzone), as they would benefit from Egypt's geographical location in exporting to Europe.

Ambassador Afifi had met in August Deputy Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs European Affairs Jan Marian to discuss the potential role of Czechia in developing Egyptian-European relations in the sectors of trade, investment, energy, and developmental cooperation.

Ambassador Afifi underscored the existence of the EU-Egyptian Association Agreement and the opportunities to capitalize on it.

On his side, the Czech deputy foreign minister valued Egyptian ties with his country, and expressed support to current communications between the country and the union to upgrade relations, particularly in the economic and developmental fields, and in the framework of handling food security and energy security.
