CAIRO – 22 January 2023: Upon arrival in Brussels, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shokry received Sunday his Spanish counterpart José Manuel Albares Bueno as they engaged in detailed talks on the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in Gaza Strip and the importance of an immediate ceasefire.

The two ministers equally covered measures that would facilitate, coordinate, and observe the delivery of humanitarian aid in a sustainable way in implementation of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution no. 2720.

Minister Shokry commended the role of Spain in backing the Palestinian Cause historically at the European Union (EU). In that framework, he pointed out that the union and active international players must fulfill their duties with that respect by intervening to put an end to Israeli violations against civilian Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. The minister further asserted that a ceasefire would not be achieved unless an international pressure is exerted on Israel.

On his side, the Spanish minister lauded the eager Egyptian efforts to devise a solution to the crisis in Gaza, deliver humanitarian aid, and work on inhibiting the expansion of the conflict's scope. He also highlighted the vital role of Egypt on a regional scale as well as a peace and stability partner in the Middle East.

The meeting similarly tackled bolstering cooperation between Egypt and Spain on both the bilateral and EU levels, including the accomplishment of congruence on current regional and international challenges.

In that context, the Egyptian and Spanish ministers agreed to continue consultations in the coming period in order to coordinate moves targeted at ending the war in Gaza, containing its humanitarian repercussions on the Palestinian Cause, and reviving the peace process on serious bases that would guarantee the establishment of an independent Palestinian Cause.
