CAIRO - 17 January 2024: President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi received the Greek Foreign Minister, George Gerapetritis, on Wednesday in the presence of Egypt's Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry.

 

The official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, Counselor Ahmed Fahmi, stated that the Greek Foreign Minister conveyed the greetings of the Greek Prime Minister to the President. He emphasized Greece's keenness to enhance cooperation with Egypt in all fields, a sentiment that the President appreciated. President al-Sisi underscored the importance of the strategic relationship between the two countries and commended the coordination and cooperation between both sides on various issues, whether bilaterally or through the trilateral mechanism with Cyprus.

 

The official spokesperson added that the meeting addressed the tense regional situation. The President warned of the dangers of military escalation in the region on multiple fronts. He stressed the urgent need to defuse the current crisis by an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the delivery of humanitarian aid to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in the sector.

 

President al-Sisi reaffirmed that Egypt would continue to exert all possible efforts to support and relieve the people of Gaza and work towards de-escalation.

 

The Greek Foreign Minister agreed with the Egyptian position, emphasizing that the current crisis once again highlighted Egypt's pivotal role in ensuring stability in the Middle East. Both sides agreed on the necessity of swiftly and seriously advancing towards a just and comprehensive resolution of the Palestinian issue, considering it the central issue in the region and the path to bringing peace, security, and stability to it.
