CAIRO – 10 January 2024: Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine al-Qabbaj inaugurated Wednesday the first branch of the prospective charity restaurant chain "Fratello" targeting to serve free of charge nutritious meals to low-income citizens.

Donors, whether individuals or institutions, who wish to support the initiative can charge pre-paid cards for beneficiaries to purchase meals. The restaurant offers a variety of meals, including some that are customized for children.

The ministry is funding the chain by 20 percent through funds allocated to subsidies and through the solidarity sector at Nasser Social Bank affiliated to the ministry.

The project is the outcome of the cooperation protocol signed in May 2023 between the ministry and the Human Fraternity Foundation, which was established through the human fraternity document signed by Pope Francis and the Grand Imam. It began work in 2022 launching medical caravans, children hospital, and school for the disabled.
