CAIRO – 5 January 2024:  Egypt’s Ministry of Endowments opened 26 mosques on Friday, including 20 new mosques and 6 renovated others nationwide.

The total number of mosques that were replaced, renovated, maintained and furnished since 2014 reached 11,486 mosques, at an estimated cost of 15.7 billion EGP, the Ministry announced in a statement.

During the inauguration of historical al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah after being restored on Feb. 27, 2023, Minister of Awqaf (Endowment] Muhammad Mukhtar Gomaa said that The al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah, the fourth oldest mosque in Egypt, was developed and renovated at an amount of EGP 85.

January 21, 2023, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi gave directives to develop an integrated plan to build mosques affiliated with the Ministry of Endowments nationwide, said former Presidential Spokesperson Bassam Rady in a statement.

The directives include activities related to daawa and Quran recital, acting as a beacon for spreading true religion throughout the country. This is while taking into account the proper selection of their locations and the allocation of a suitable space for them, in addition to raising the efficiency of the main mosques in each governorate.
