Egypt’s Senate speaker greets Catholic Copts on Christmas

CAIRO – 25 December 2023: Egypt’s Speaker of the Senate Abdel Wahab Abdel Razek greeted the Copts of Egypt who celebrate Christmas according to the Gregorian calendar.

At the beginning of Senate session on Monday, he asserted that national unity is the secret of Egypt's strength in face of enemies.

He wished Egypt more progress and prosperity under President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

Egypt’s Catholic Church bells rang out, on Sunday, for the start of the Christmas Mass, led by Patriarch Ibrahim Isaac, at the Nasr City Cathedral.

On Monday, The church expected to receive Christmas well-wishers at the Patriarchal House on the Dome Bridge, and at the head of the well-wishers is Pope Tawadros II.

The Catholic Church in Egypt began Christmas fasting on December 10, and will end it on Christmas Eve (December 24) at midnight.

In 2022, the Christmas celebrations were held in the presence of pontiffs, statesmen, representatives of Al-Azhar and public figures.
