CAIRO – 21 December 2023: North Korean leader Kim Jong Un sent a congratulatory message to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi for winning the presidential election, reported the Egyptian state’s news agency MENA.

"I extend my congratulations to you on your re-election as President of the Arab Republic of Egypt,” the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) quoted the North Korean leader as saying.

“I express my conviction that the traditional relations of friendship and cooperation between the DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea) and Egypt will continue to expand and develop in various fields in the common interests of peoples of the two countries,” he added.

World leaders have congratulated the Egyptian president on winning the elections last week. Sisi, president since 2014, was re-elected for a third six-year-term until 2030.

Sisi won the elections with 39.702.541 votes or 89.6% of total valid votes, according to the National Elections Authority.

In a speech following the victory, Sisi affirmed continuing efforts to build the “New Republic,” which is a democratic state that is committed to upholding the law and constitution and moves firmly toward modernity and growth.

Sisi stressed that he will remain the voice of the Egyptian people and defend their dream. “In my mission that you have assigned me, I have nothing but working with and for you,” he said.
