CAIRO - 12 December 2023: Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman and Director of the Public Diplomacy Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that a delegation of members of the Security Council visited the cities of Al-Arish and Rafah on Monday, December 11, with the organization and coordination between the missions of Egypt and the UAE to the United Nations, and within the framework of the UAE’s current membership in the Security Council.

The Foreign Ministry spokesman explained that during the visit, the members of the Council was informed of the progress of the huge humanitarian and medical operations provided to support relief efforts for the Palestinian brothers in the Gaza Strip, including inspection efforts of the aid and humanitarian carried out by the Egyptian Red Crescent, and the medical support provided to the wounded Palestinians, as well as identifying the obstacles imposed by the Israeli side on the entry of aid trucks and the evacuation of the wounded from the Rafah crossing, as well as the overcrowding of aid trucks that this leads to and the obstruction of their entry into the Gaza Strip.

Ambassador Abu Zeid added that the visit of Security Council members to both Al-Arish and Rafah comes at a very important time in which the Security Council is unable, unfortunately, to take a decision to cease fire in the Gaza Strip and put an end to the continued targeting of civilians, provide them with protection, and secure their basic needs.

The visit also coincides with the current engagement of the Security Council in discussing the draft Arab/Islamic resolution, the text of which was first drafted by Egypt, to launch an effective mechanism that allows aid to enter the Gaza Strip smoothly and develops solutions to the existing challenges and obstacles imposed by Israel.
