CAIRO – 6 December 2023: Telecom Egypt (WE) announced on Wednesday that the internet service has been fully restored nationwide after disruption due to a technical malfunction in one of the main networks.

All users, regardless of disruption impact, will receive additional 10GB on internet bundles as compensation, the company added in a Facebook statement on Wednesday.

WE denied rumors circulated on some social media sites claiming that a submarine communications cable broke out at sea after many areas across Egypt lost connection to the internet.

In TV remarks, Mohamed Abu Taleb, Vice President of Telecom Egypt, said the disruption in the internet service has affected 10 percent of the company’s customers in dense areas in Cairo, Suez Canal cities, and Lower Egypt.

According to Statista, Egypt had almost 81 million internet users as of January 2023, up from 79.5 million users in the previous year.
